Space Consortium

Spatial Justice through the CEI Space Consortium

Spatial justice is at the center of the CEI’s mission, ethos, and programming. As cost of living increases across the city, rent for creative use is less accessible. This is particularly challenging for QTIDBIPOC artists, who systematically have less access to capital and resources than their white, cisgender, able-bodied counterparts. QTDBIPOC-led emergent organizations are undeniably important for the health of the entire arts ecosystem, representing nuance and diversity among communities. Their dynamism, flexibility, and adaptability help them mobilize quickly to serve community needs during emergencies. They also keep the arts ecosystem grounded in community needs, providing checks and balances for larger cultural institutions that, while also important, at times are more responsive to stakeholders with more economic, political, and social power.

We address this issue directly through the CEI Space Consortium, where we subsidize space rental for our members. The CEI Space Consortium builds on what we’ve already established: our network of resources and partnerships with artists and hubs all over the city. We partner with space hubs and match them to our organizational and community partners, providing access to the creative space they need to support their stability and development at reduced rates. While we address the issue of spatial injustice, we also build artist networks and fortify a culture of collective action and resource sharing.

Space Partners

General Headquarters: Coop Social Club

We are grateful to have been able to offer our communities a low-cost, multi-use space at the Midway Artists Studios for more than 4 years.

In 2026, we moved to a spot closer to our communities—the Coop Social Club in JP, where we are co-owners and part of a wider network of collaboratively-minded individuals and organizations in the city. At the Coop Social Club, we will continue to address spatial injustice in the City of Boston; we provide our members and wider community access to meeting, rehearsal, and event space through memberships at the Club.

The CEI at the Coop Social Club offers:

  • An open workspace

  • Bookable rooms with varying capacity

  • A marley dance floor for 1-2 people (or a stage when covered)

  • A gallery featuring art by emergent QTIDBIPOC artists

  • A private, multi-use studio space (capacity 4-5 people)

Space Partner: Jo-Mé Studios

We have partnered with Jo-Mé Studios as a space partner. By partnering with Jo-Mé, we are able to offer consistent rehearsal space for one of our core members.

The primary goal of Jo-Mé Dance is to enrich the lives of people of all ages, races and backgrounds throughout the United States and the world, through the art of dance.
